Here's What Meghan Markle Eats to Get Glowing Skin

The Duchess of Sussex may be locked behind Kensington Palace's royal communications team now, but for years, Meghan Markle did plenty of interviews for her role on USA's Suits. And now that an interview with Markle is pretty hard to come by, publications are digging into their archives for any tidbits the former actress left behind before marrying into the tight-lipped British royal family. One such detail? The diet she often relied on to brighten her skin before she had to appear on camera. In her pre-duchess days, those recipes were simply a run-of-the-mill Hollywood diet, but now, it's the diet of a duchess. Adjust your meal planning accordingly.

Back in 2016, when rumors of a romance with Prince Harry were just beginning to crop up, Markle spoke with Delish about her favorite foods, cheat day must-haves, and what exactly she ate when Suits was in session. According to the interview, she'd start each shooting day with hot water with lemon, followed by a healthy breakfast of steel-cut oats with bananas and agave syrup.

For lunch, she had a salad with some kind of protein. Later, she'd snack on an apple with almond butter or a green juice — "green juice is a food-as-medicine philosophy for me," she said at the time — then go a bit heavier for dinner: pasta with zucchini, parmesan cheese, and a glass of "big, beautiful red" wine. Fun fact: Whenever she ate so much that she had a "food baby," she'd lovingly refer to it as "Comida."

When it comes to healthy skin, Markle reached for almonds and gluten-free foods to keep herself glowing on camera. "[Gluten] gets such a bad rap," she explained. clarifying that she hasn't sworn it off completely: "However, when I'm traveling, I won't miss an opportunity to try great pasta," she added.

In the past, Markle mentally divided her time between Suits shooting days and non-shooting days. "On hiatus, all bets are off," she says of her diet. But now that she's technically on a permanent hiatus from acting, does that mean she's eating nothing but unlimited pasta from the best restaurants in the world?

Probably not — since Prince Harry has reportedly gotten a lot healthier since he started dating Markle, there's a good chance she's still stocking their Kensington Palace home with almonds and green juice.
