Princess Beatrice Names Baby Daughter In Honor Of Queen Elizabeth

After weeks of waiting, we finally know what Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have named their baby daughter.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have named their daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi,” read a Friday announcement from Buckingham Palace. “The couple have said, ‘We are all doing well and Wolfie is the best big brother to Sienna.’” Wolfie is a nickname for Christopher Woolf, Mozzi’s 5-year-old son whom he shares with his ex-fiancee Dara Huang.

The announcement was made alongside a print of baby Sienna’s feet. The couple welcomed Sienna on September 18th.

There had been speculation from online bookies that the couple would choose an Italian name to honor Mozzi’s heritage or name their daughter after a current or former British royal, with “Elizabeth” leading the odds. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had named their daughter Lilibet in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s family nickname (with a special tribute to the mother of Prince Harry and Prince William). “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” the couple had explained in a statement. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

The name Sienna, according to the website BabyNames, is of Italian origin and means “reddish-brown.” There is also a medieval city in Italy called Siena. While the name Elizabeth has roots in both Hebrew, derived from the name Elisheba, which means “oath of God,” “God is satisfaction,” “God is bountiful,” or “God of plenty.”

On Friday, Mozzi shared the name announcement on Instagram. “Our life together has just begun, and I can’t wait to see all the amazing things that await us,” he wrote. “Feeling so much love and gratitude for my amazing wife, baby Sienna and Wolfie. These are the days I never want to forget. This week, a friend said to me the sweetest saying….that with every child you grow a whole new heart.”
