Prince William Reveals His Sweet Nickname for Princess Charlotte

New nickname alert! Prince William called his 4-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, something sweet while playing in the garden that Duchess Kate designed for the Chelsea Flower Show.

In a Monday, May 20, video shared by Kensington Palace, the little royal explored with her siblings Prince George, 5, and Prince Louis, 13 months. Her parents joined in on the fun as well with the Duchess of Cambridge, 37, kneeling beside her youngest and the Duke of Cambridge, 36, taking a turn on the rope swing.

“Mignonette,” William called out to his daughter while swinging. “Give me a push.” The nickname, which is derived from the French origin of “mignon,” means “small” or “delicate.” Old French definitions also include “dainty, pleasing, gentle, kind.”

Charlotte responded to the pet name immediately, asking, “Yeah?” and looking back at her dad before running over to him in a floral dress.

Later in the adorable family footage, Louis showed off his walking skills, taking shaky steps toward the camera, while George gave his mom’s garden design a weighty endorsement.

“What would you give it out of 10, George?” William asked. “How many marks out of 10 would you give it, ten being the highest?” When his eldest responded, “20,” the duke went on to say, “That’s pretty good. I think mummy’s done well.”

The garden was deigned by the rustic den that Kate’s children play in at their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk, England. “In recent years I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life,” Kate said in a Saturday, May 18, statement. “I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults.”
