Duchess Meghan’s Friend Says She Will Be a ‘Strict’ Mom to Son Archie
Duchess Meghan’s closest friends opened up about the new mom in a CBS special, Meghan and Harry Plus One, that aired on Friday, May 17, and revealed how she will raise her son, Archie, with husband Prince Harry.
“Meghan and I have talked about her being a mother for over a decade,” the former Suits star’s pal Janina Gavankar told host Gayle King. “She’s always wanted to be a mom. She’s going to be such a good mother.”
Explaining why, the True Blood alum, 38, added. “I think she’ll be very low-maintenance. I think she will be very hands-on. The way she would have been if she hadn’t married into the royal family.”
But Gavankar, who attended the couple’s wedding last May at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in England, added that her friend will be setting boundaries for her son, who was born on May 6.
“I think Meghan’s gonna be strict,” she said. “Not in some sort of, you know, intense way. But I think she’s gonna — she’s an incredibly practical person. She’s gonna run a tight ship.”
Meghan’s longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin, who cried at one point during the special as he defended his friend against negative press, added that little Archie is lucky to have a dad like Harry.
“He’s so good with kids,” said Martin, who did Meghan’s makeup for her wedding. “Even when they were doing the family portrait after the wedding with everybody, he was on the floor, just playing with the kids. And that’s when I knew, like, he’s gonna be the coolest dad.”
Royal contributor Omid Scobie previously told Us Weekly that Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34 — who chose not to give their son a royal title — want to “bring up children who know the values of normal things in life.”
“Meghan will take her kids on a subway,” he told Us last November. “They’ll do chores and have jobs one day. They won’t be spoiled.”
