Michelle Williams & Stealth Husband Are Blended Family Goals
Michelle Williams is in love, and for the first time in a long time, she doesn’t care who knows it. The actor, who notoriously keeps quiet on her relationships, told Vanity Fair that she married musician Phil Elverum in a private ceremony in the Adirondacks earlier this month, and honestly, their romance sounds like a dream.
"Obviously I’ve never once in my life talked about a relationship," she told the magazine. "But Phil isn’t anyone else. And that’s worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."
Both Williams and her new beau, more commonly known by his musical moniker Mount Eerie, have suffered a great deal of heartbreak in the past. Before meeting Williams, Elverum was married to musician and illustrator Geneviève Castrée, who died in 2016 from pancreatic cancer. The two shared a daughter, who is now 3.
The death of a loved one is something familiar to Williams. In 2008, her ex, Heath Ledger, died from a drug overdose, leaving her to raise their then-2-year-old daughter, Matilda, alone.
"When you’re a single parent, and that element of provider and protection is missing, it’s scary," Williams told Vanity Fair of the experience.
Though the aftermath of Ledger’s death was difficult, Williams said she still talks about him fondly to her daughter, now 12.
"I never gave up on love," she said. "I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes."
I’m not 100 percent sure if I believe in fate, but it seems to me these two were destined to meet each other. Today, the blended family of four live together in New York, where they are exploring a new world of love and belonging. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that.
