Dollar General's Baby Gripe Water Recalled Over Choking Hazard Due to 'Undissolved Ingredient'

The newest addition to the infant-care recall list? DG Baby Gripe Water.

Sold at Dollar General stores, all lots of the over-the-counter product have been recalled by its distributor, Kingston Pharma, LLC, “due to the presence of an undissolved ingredient, citrus flavonoid,” the company said in a press release published on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration‘s website.

“Use of the product should not be considered hazardous but could result in difficulty when swallowing the product for sensitive individuals,” they stated of the “herbal supplement with organic ginger and fennel extracts.”

Three More Batches of Liquid Infant Ibuprofen Added to Recall List — How to Check Your Products

Parents can check their products (which come in 4 oz. plastic amber bottles, are topped with white plastic caps and include a syringe for oral administration) to see if they are part of the recall by looking for UPC Code 8 5495400246 3, reports Kingston Pharma, LLC.

“Kingston Pharma, LLC has received one report of a 1-week-old infant having difficulty when swallowing the product and three complaints attributed to the undissolved citrus flavonoid,” the company continued in the press release of the related incidents they have been made aware of.

The press release urges consumers to report any adverse reactions to FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online at www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm, or by mailing or faxing a form found at www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm. The fax number is 1-800-FDA-0178.

It also encourages parents to reach out about any negative effects as a result of using the Baby Gripe Water, as well as to speak to their children’s physicians.
